Meet Johnny

As a Christian conservative, husband, and father of three, Johnny Garrett is running for Congress to fight alongside President Trump in doing what the swamp in Washington would never do - stand up for conservative family values, fix our economy, and keep our country safe.

Johnny is committed to working with President Trump and supporting his America First agenda. After President Trump took office in 2016, Johnny saw the need for more America First fighters, which is why he ran for State Representative in 2018 to ensure Tennessee continued to be a bastion for the American First movement and conservative values. After his first election in 2018, Johnny was selected by his peers in the Tennessee General Assembly to serve as the House Majority Whip, a position that he has held since 2019.
Johnny is a seventh-generation Goodlettsvillian and has lived in Sumner County for over 35 years. He grew up in Goodlettsville, proposed to and married his wife Kara at his childhood home, and is now raising his family in his hometown.

While in high school, Johnny’s first jobs were at the Bank of Goodlettsville and Cole & Garrett Funeral homes. Johnny and his wife, Kara, a registered nurse, have been married for 23 years. They are raising three children, Jackson (21), Ella (18) and Addie (16) along with their dog Layla, a miniature Australian Shepherd.

Johnny attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he obtained a B.S. degree in General Business and became a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He earned his J.D. from the Nashville School of Law in 2006. As a lawyer, Johnny practices in Sumner County, where he represents small to medium-sized businesses, entrepreneurs who need guidance on starting their businesses, and individuals who need assistance in probate and estate planning matters.
Johnny is committed to serving others and has deep roots in Sumner County. He has served on the Board of Directors for Goodpasture Christian School, Volunteer State Community College Foundation, Grace Place Ministries, Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center, and Forward Sumner Economic Partnership.
